We believe the best way to get better is to start by improving your understanding and awareness of what is the right level and where you sit in relation to that. Until then, you will be yearning for someone at the bottom of every run you do to tell you if you are there or not yet at the level (sound familiar?).
Once you understand what you are trying to achieve yourself, you no longer rely on the constant external feedback, and can start making use of all your skiing time and make improvements quicker.
From here our team can develop to a much deeper level by augmenting your own feedback. By working together we will create your own individual pathway to being better.
We break down skiing into simple movement patterns and then practice them across all strands, this helps to bed in skills and makes for more playful and technical skiing.
The rest of it is pretty simple, in a nutshell – go skiing!
Get out there, whatever the weather, whatever the conditions and ski. It’s too easy to be reliant on ‘perfect’ training conditions and blaming external factors. But we strongly believe that skiing can’t be learnt from a book, or YouTube!
You have to ski, ski everything, ski every day. Challenge youself with snow, weather, terrain, equipment, arousal levels. Go and ski bad snow, steep refrozen slushy bumps, breakable crud, bullet proof icy pistes, as well as the fun stuff. This is the way to make sure you make sure you can get to your next exam skiing above the level.
Then exams can be fun and you can take feedback on board and keep improving.
In our experience as employers and examiners one thing many young aspiring ski instructors coming through BASI today miss is mileage. Make sure you can ski a flowing fall like decent thought a steep treeline. We know it’s not going to be examine, but it uses all the fundamentals and challenges you a lot more than doing short turns down the same piste again and again and again…
Skiing should be fun, and we will make sure you know the criteria, how you are relative to it, understand and practice the correct movements. We will ski a lot of short turns, bumps, central theme and all the other strands, we will also go and ski every condition the mountain can challenge us with to help you be the best skier you can be.
Famous for the Matterhorn, Zermatt is a quintessential high alpine Swiss village with glorious mountain views. However, the chocolate box image of Zermatt should not lead you to underestimate the skiing here. The Matterhorn Ski Paradise offers 360km of pistes in Zermatt, Cervinia and Valtournenche.
The modern and speedy lift system is constantly being improved, currently we have 52 ski lifts. The 2 new installations this year are the Kumme gondola (with a mid station, giving much more access to Rothorn and the skiing around), and the 3S from Klein Matterhorn to Testa Grigia.
Zermatt is of the world’s most snow sure resorts, with 75% of the slopes have the capacity for artificial snow or are situated on a glacier.
BASI instructor courses have run in Zermatt for more than 10 years.
Mostly pre season November course, but now more courses are being added through the winter.
The terrain is varied and vast and offers us everything we need to develop your skiing to the next level.
